Not since 2004’s Mean Girls has a father, a son, and a grandfather been able to name the same women they all know. Lindsey Lohan’s tenure may have been passed to Kim Kardashian after 2006’s Bimbo Summit but ask your 2006 grandfather if he knows that just one year later they will have a reality TV show that launches her to be the second most famous woman with men between the ages of 12-72.
Enter Sydney Sweeney who I am ready to announce is this generation Marilyn Monroe. On Saturday morning, when this photo above came across my desk I immediately felt like a part of history. Not because of the historical baseball game where the Toronto Blue Jays scored 28 runs for first time in franchise record. Which I only learned about when googling “sydney sweeney red sox” for the picture for this post.
I felt like I was living in history because I could not remember the last time that celebrity and sports had this great of a cross-over. I do understand for “sports guys” celebs are sitting on the hardwood daily during the NBA season. But this is baseball and it is no longer America’s pastime. But Baseball may be back after Sweeney’s pitch Friday night.
I feel great confidence the nostalgia machine will print out this image 20 years from now and we will all think fondly of when Sydney Sweeney cemented herself as Mrs. America. Sweeney captioning “they should’ve put me in” makes this a bet with a fortunate return.
